mark & kelley ash have saved busy gning development and reimagining their north alabama farmhouse for the past few years. the couple he's an architect at part planning; she' ine an artist constructed the original shot -style farmhouse in 2011 then brought another seven-hundred square feet years later. in combination they've dug holes combined concrete & framed the walls with a unadorned hammer and nails. "we didn't get a nail until we set to work upstairs " says kelley.
each element of the home together with installations was once performed only by the couple. "no longer one piece of machinery got here via this gate " kelley notes. the couple eliminated labor costs via doing the work themselves & reduced bills through sourcing reclaimed materials like wooden from kelley's grand ' ation house & metal from a dilapidated hen coop. kelley describes the end result as a mix of commercial scandinavian and unfashionable-farmhouse style.
